Meig's syndrome. Massive ascites and huge tumour. For laparotomy. Couldn't drain ascitic fluid fast enough, it started spilling everywhere, on the floor, etc. Mets on bowel and peritoneal wall, nothing could be done, not even primary tumour removed, wound closed.
Fungating breast cancer, for radical mastectomy. But no palpable lymph nodes, and nothing found intraoperatively. Weird.
Caesarean section in G3P2 with 1 previous scar, failed trial of VBAC. Lots of meconium, baby flat at delivery. Clever midwife did not suction the mec, but started ventilating straight away!! Wouldn't be surprised if this one develops mec aspiration syndrome. Baby lived though, which is a good thing, took about 3 minutes before it showed signs of life. Good to observe a real neonatal resuscitation. This woman also wanted tubal ligation which was done after the caesar, and also had a large 30mm diameter bartholin cyst which was marsupialised, lots of brown chocolatey coloured liquid inside.
Went to market to buy groceries for mzungu dinner - rained like mad on the way back, we were all drenched. spent the afternoon making vegetable pie. Eggplant, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, carrots with a topping of mashed potatoes and shredded cheddar cheese.
Dr. Sally had christmas pudding with whisky , and she flamed it. Looked cool. Also had blue 'whisky butter'.
